Lincoln Office Wins Award
Congratulations to the Lincoln, Nebraska
office for being recognized with the 2004
Award of Merit from the Nebraska Concrete
Paving Association. The award was presented
January 18, 2005 at the Cornhusker Hotel
in Lincoln. The award was for the best
project submitted in the category of Secondary
State Highways and County Roads, and represents
the high quality of concrete construction
for a one-mile improvement to State Highway
22 in the town of Scotia in central Nebraska.
MACTEC was recognized for our significant
contributions to this project as the designer
of the roadway improvements, and shared
the award with project owner the Nebraska
Department of Roads (NDOR), as well as
the construction contractor.
MACTEC performed the functional, final,
and Right of Way design for the improvement.
The project consisted of widening the existing
two-lane section through town to a three-lane
urban type section with new curbs and sidewalks.
Due to the area’s flat terrain, drainage
was a major issue. The resulting design
placed all open drainage in an enclosed
storm sewer system.
Highway 22 is Scotia’s main east-west
thoroughfare. To accommodate traffic needs
during construction, MACTEC prepared detour
plans as well as construction staging plans
for the eastern and western portions of
the project.
Construction cost of this improvement
was just over $2,000,000. The project was
let for construction in 2003 and was completed
in 2004.

Since opening in September 1996, the MACTEC
Lincoln office has had a very close and
successful relationship with NDOR. In addition
to several ongoing NDOR projects, a number
of roadway design improvements completed
by the office are in various stages of
construction or letting.
