Minimize Environmental Liability While Achieving Your Business Objectives

The power industry is struggling to meet the worldwide demand for clean, efficient energy in the midst of financial, strategic and regulatory uncertainty. MACTEC provides solutions and strategies to assist power and utility companies in facing the challenges of a deregulated market in a global economy.

Fossil

Many of the country’s coal-fired plants are more than 30 years old and require physical asset investment or rebuilding. In support of the environmental, engineering and design efforts to upgrade these fossil plants, MACTEC is providing services for SCRs, new scrubbers, ash landfill site development and closures, and evaluations of intake structures, as well as design and construction for retiring small, older plants.

Nuclear

There is renewed interest in nuclear power, but the industry still faces the hurdles of public acceptance, spent fuel disposal, decommissioning, and security. MACTEC has over three decades of experience in the nuclear industry, beginning with nuclear power plant construction, start-ups, and outages in the 70’s and 80’s, and evolving into technical support services, remedial construction, construction management, and decommissioning and demolition services for former nuclear weapons facilities and nuclear fuel fabrication/research facilities.

We are one of the few organizations with an NRC Radioactive Materials License, a diverse history in the nuclear industry, and the technical expertise to plan and execute complex radiological projects. In fact, in the last ten years, MACTEC has been contracted by government and commercial clients to decommission and demolish more than 200 radiologically contaminated facilities in addition to providing radiological remediation services at more than 400 properties nationwide.

Our continued experience with nuclear power plants includes design specification development, bid and award proceedings, construction oversight and management, regulatory permitting and licensing, and remedial actions to address residuals impacting the environment.

Renewable

Renewable energy technologies such as wind power continue to gain acceptance in the power industry due to their environmentally friendly process of providing cleaner power with little residue. MACTEC is currently providing siting, environmental and engineering services on more than 60 windmills in the Midwest. Our experience also includes determining soil thermal conductivity values, which are used in sizing buried power cable networks for wind turbine and other alternate power distribution systems.
