MACTEC awarded contract for underground storage tank program
ALPHARETTA, GA, Aug. 5, 2009 – The Georgia Department of Natural Resources
(DNR) has awarded MACTEC a one-year, $3 million contract with two additional one
year renewal options to provide a wide variety of environmental services at
various underground storage tank sites statewide. Allen Kibler, President of
MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., (www.mactec.com),
made the announcement.
DNR has statewide responsibilities for the management and conservation of
Georgia’s natural and cultural resources. Most of this work is conducted by
DNR’s six operating divisions which include: Coastal Resources Division,
Environmental Protection Division, Historic Preservation Division, Pollution
Prevention Assistance Division, Parks, Recreation & Historic Sites Division and
Wildlife Resources Division. The Board of Natural Resources, which is appointed
by the Governor, oversees rulemaking for the agency.
The contract falls under DNR’s Environmental Protection Division’s Underground
Storage Tank Management Program. Major work tasks to be performed include the
following;
- Monitoring well installation and sampling
- Local water resource surveys
- Interim free product recovery
- Site investigation reports
- Groundwater fate and transport modeling
- Pilot testing to assist in remedial design
- Corrective action plans
- Remediation system installation, operation and maintenance
- Site closure
- Outsourced document review for the state.
According to MACTEC Vice President and Southeast Area Manager David Goershel,
MACTEC previously won a similar contract in 2004 which has resulted in the award
of more than 30 projects including several sites with large and complicated
groundwater contaminant plumes, which in some cases have impacted multiple
aquifers. Goershel added that the contractor program was created to assess and
remediate underground storage tank releases at facilities where either the
owner/operator can’t fund the work upfront or a responsible party can’t be
located.
