Modern construction practices require not only
an understanding of fundamental properties of
construction materials and advanced technologies,
but also of partnerships with other engineers,
contractors and owners. As a full-service consulting
firm with a broad base of experience, MACTEC is
committed to delivering services in response to
the demands of our diverse client base.
Construction Monitoring
and Quality Control Inspection
MACTEC engineers supervise and control testing
services, provide recommendations based on reliable
data, and monitor the implementation of recommendations
throughout the construction process.
Materials Engineering
and Testing
Materials engineers develop specifications and
quality control programs, assist in the selection
of the most suitable materials, and monitor material
quality and construction performance for compliance
with specifications. MACTEC’s professionals
develop testing programs to speed the construction
process through onsite and laboratory services
specific for the project.
Geotechnical Engineering
Our geotechnical engineers and earth scientists
are specialists in soils engineering, hydrology,
geology, geophysics, seismology, and rock mechanics.
Through state-of-the-art exploratory techniques,
we determine the behavior of soil, water and rock
as affected by natural phenomena and construction
activities.
Drilling and Subsurface
Testing / Exploration
MACTEC provides drilling support to construction
projects. Our equipment includes downhole in situ
testing devices such as pressuremeters, dilatometers
and cone penetrameters.
Engineering Geology
Our engineering geologists are highly experienced
specialists in evaluating varied soil, rock and
groundwater conditions. Most are registered geologists
or certified engineering geologists, and all have
worked on a wide range of projects, including
commercial construction, industrial construction,
landfills, tunnels, pipelines, dams, and major
land developments. Geologists may perform seismic
analyses; evaluate slope stability and landslides;
evaluate the potential for liquefaction and seismic
settlement, tsunamis, seiches and flooding; and
perform geological reconnaissance and mapping.
They also evaluate rock tunneling support systems
such as shotcrete, rock bolts/anchors, steel liners/bracing
and rock grouting.
Foundation Engineering
Services include bearing and settlement analysis,
shallow foundations, and piles and drilled shafts.
We inspect footing excavations to verify suitability
of bearing soils to support the design foundation
pressures; inspect drilled pier excavations to
verify that the exposed rock is suitable to support
the design bearing pressures; observe test pile
installation and evaluate pile load tests; and
observe production pile installation.
Groundwater Monitoring
MACTEC monitors groundwater during and after construction
to address potential groundwater impacts and groundwater
management and remediation problems. We perform
monitoring using quality monitoring, modeling,
and analytical techniques such as designing and
installing groundwater monitoring wells and piezometers.
