Award-Winning MACTEC Efforts Help Preserve Historic Nashville Landmark
MACTEC received an Architectural Preservation Award from the Metropolitan Nashville Historical Commission for the fast-tracked design of architectural and structural renovations involving the elevated parking deck, covered entrance walkways and covered concourse at Nashville’s circa-1900 Union Station Hotel. The stone building – a Nashville landmark – was converted to a hotel in 1986. MACTEC had previously worked at the historic site on the conversion project, and later when a fire caused extensive damage to the station building. Using a combination of physical and petrographic testing methods, MACTEC engineers successfully enabled their insurance company client to retain the building’s historical designation, while devising a repair solution that resulted in savings of over $1 million.
