MACTEC Ensures Quality for One of World’s Largest Runways
As part of a joint venture team, MACTEC designed and implemented a comprehensive Quality Control Program for the testing and monitoring of all materials and construction operations performed for the construction of the largest commercial airport runway in North America, and one of the largest in the world. The 16,000-foot-long, 200-foot-wide runway and taxiways required laying nearly 1 million square yards of 17-inch deep concrete - enough to build a sidewalk from Denver to New York City - and required moving 216 million cubic feet of dirt. The sixth runway is able to accommodate the new generation of massive airliners, including the Airbus A-380.
