Innovative Load Testing
As the geotechnical consultant for a $386 million, 28-mile South Carolina road construction project – the largest design-build project ever undertaken in the state – MACTEC initiated a unique load test to assist in the design of foundations for 31 bridges. Using Pile Driving Analyzer technology to monitor prestressed concrete piles tested for static and dynamic loads, our team established relationships between time and bearing capacity that ultimately allowed more piles to be accepted, thereby providing significant cost and schedule benefits. The project was ultimately completed in its entirety seven months early and under budget.
