Consolidated Intelligence Reconnaissance
Laboratory

MACTEC performed a Function Analysis Concept Development (FACD) study on this 112,600 SF Lab Research Facility at Griffiss Technology Park in Rome, New York.  This Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) design build project included the development of three concept designs over a seven day period with extensive Lab personnel involvement that resulted in a concept project design that satisfied all user needs.  The construction cost for this project was estimated at $21,936,000.  The team developed several cost saving options from the original concept that resulted in a total savings of $647,000.

Vaccine Research Center

MACTEC performed a three-day value engineering study on the 100% design documents for this new research, educational and conference facility at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD.  The construction cost for this project was estimated at $23,365,000.  The VE team generated 140 ideas and developed 80 cost saving proposals that resulted in project savings of $1.6 million.

Strategic Research Center
Newport, Rhode Island

MACTEC performed a value engineering study on the concept design documents for this new military war gaming facility.  The construction cost for this 170,000 SF project was estimated at $29 million. The Northern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command realized $2.5 million in cost savings from this VE effort.


National Radio Astronomy Observatory Addition

MACTEC facilitated a five-day value engineering study on the 35% design documents for the consolidation of the NRAO Headquarters at Stone Hall on the University of Virginia Charlottesville, VA campus.  The construction cost for this project was estimated at $5,872,000.  The UVA VE  team developed 31 proposals that could  result in construction cost savings of $1.5 million.

Argonne National Laboratory

MACTEC performed a value engineering study employing five VE teams on the concept design documents for this new research facility.  The construction cost for this 780,000 SF project was estimated at $140 million. The Department of Energy realized over $17 million in cost savings from this on-site VE effort.
