Decontamination and Demolition
MACTEC adds value for clients though our
experience on decontamination and demolition (D&D) projects of all sizes and
types. We’ve been successful with D&D at power plants, weapons production
facilities, and other large structures and sites contaminated with radioactive
or other hazardous material.
Additionally, our NRC Radioactive Materials License
enables us to transfer D&D risk, regulatory compliance, and oversight costs from
facility owner to MACTEC. We work directly with the NRC on all decommissioning
activities, again saving our clients time and money.
D&D processes and services
include:
- Radiological decontamination
- Structural demolition and dismantling of building components
- Foundation and underground systems removal
- Remediation of contaminated soil; hazmats removal/disposal
- Waste minimization, segregation, packaging
- Backfill and site restoration
Throughout the D&D
process, MACTEC maintains comprehensive information on all waste to enable
proper packaging and disposal. Waste is characterized through sampling and
analysis to meet disposal facility acceptance criteria.
Characterization data is
also used for health, safety, and transportation requirements. As this data is
generated, it is continuously evaluated to provide the safest, most efficient
waste handling, packaging, and disposal.
