Wetlands Strategy
MACTEC provides evaluation services for marshes, swamps, peat bogs, riverine
hardwoods, wet prairies, and a variety of coastal and estuarine wetlands. We use
established methods to characterize wetlands and evaluate their function and
sensitivity based on vegetation and wildlife composition, productivity, habitat
value, and ecologic and hydrologic characteristics.
Strategy and mapping
MACTEC employs field surveys and photo interpretation to select the most
efficient means of wetland strategy. Once delineated, wetlands are mapped,
measured and classified, with results calculated and displayed through
computer-aided design (CAD), Geographic Information System (GIS), and Global
Positioning System (GPS) mapping.
Functional assessment and habitat evaluation
MACTEC conducts wetland functional assessment based on position within the
landscape, local geology, hydrology, soil characteristics, and vegetation. We
determine the biological disposition and functions exhibited by wetlands,
employing a multidisciplinary approach to accurately compare habitat quality.
Mitigation plan development and design
To respond to unavoidable wetland loss, MACTEC assists clients in developing
mitigation plans featuring wetland restoration and creation, enhancement, and
preservation. Drawing on extensive knowledge of natural processes and functions,
MACTEC designs wetland systems that aid in the treatment of stormwater and
wastewater.
Regulatory permitting
MACTEC determines the nature and extent of wetland areas potentially subject to
regulatory agency jurisdiction under federal, state, and local law. We use the
latest information on regulations, policies, and permitting procedures to
facilitate permit approval.
