Subsurface engineering for Missouri DOT

MACTEC discovered, identified, and inventoried more than 140 miles of surface and subsurface utilities relating to the upgrade of Interstate 64. Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is rebuilding the primary east-west artery between downtown St. Louis and the western suburbs. This section of I-64 is of older construction and urgently needs modernization. Traffic congestion is heavy at times, especially during morning and evening commutes.

In addition to MACTEC’s subterranean effort, all utility poles and overhead lines were inventoried for nearly 20 different public and private utility providers—electricity, natural gas, water and sewer, municipalities, and telecom. Rigorous QA/QC ensured accuracy, and a comprehensive safety plan resulted in an accident-free project.
